Actually it's a question
What is Smartness? if you ask me this question, I don't know what practical answer I would give. This was the question I was asking myself and finally; I am convinced with a answer.
Answers:-
Smartness doesn't mean you are Brilliant, it's a myth.
if you can impress someone with your knowledge about something that you learnt then you are Smart.
This doesn't mean that, the person you impressed is DUM A*S!!!. He can very well refer some place and learn about the same topic and gain more knowledge than you, later. You are smart here because you got the Timing Right!!!
let me share my experience with you
1. I met this guy in Airport coffee shop early in the morning. he surprised the ____ out of me with , Daily News. He was giving me updates about every hot news of that period, form "Medical Bill", "Housing Market" to "NFL". He was not talking about something that I cannot learn. I am speechless because, I did not follow the news for the last one week. He got the Timing Right!!! & I was DUM! there.
2. I went to Lunch with my co-worker. he surprised me with the updates about, day's stock prices and with profit; he made by selling BOA & RIM stocks. I do have those stocks, that he was discussing about; but I was not able to talk about the rate, profit and loss of that day. simple I did not follow the market. He got the Timing Right!!! & I was DUM! there.
3. I joined this sales guy for dinner. we went to a good Italian Restaurant. he surprised the ____ out of me with his knowledge about the wine variety, taste and the grapes it was prepared from. He wasn't just listing the wine names like Marlot, Shiraz, Zinfandel , Muscato.....etc. which I can very well do. He was explaining me the difference in the wine prepared from the grapes; grown on the east side of the Northern Californian Mountains to the grapes grown on the west side, towards the Ocean. I bet he spent fairly substantial amount of time to learn about wine. He got the Timing Right!!! & I was DUM! there.
So if you get to met any smart guy in future, you don't have to feel bad about your ignorance. He got the timing right. Just say Lucky You!!! and do not ignore him. Try to get some knowledge by yourself about the topic that he was talking.
My philosophy about smartness may look absurd. but this is what I experienced :)
